Range Rover Sport Conquers The Swiss Alps With Ben Collins

Sure, most Range Rover Sports are used to trundle around town rather than going off road but to prove the vehicle's capabilities off the beaten path, Range Rover recently headed to Switzerland.

With stunt driver and ex-Stig Ben Collins in the driver's seat, a bright orange Range Rover Sport made its way down the treacherous Inferno downhill ski course in Murren.

The ski course is used in one of the world's most challenging downhill races and despite gradients of up to 75 per cent, the Range Rover completed the 14.9 km course in just 21 minutes and 36 seconds, reaching speeds of up to 96 mph (154 km/h).

According to Collins, “This was genuinely one of the hardest tests I’ve faced in my driving career. The route was insane and certainly the toughest course I’ve ever completed. It challenged you with every kind of obstacle this side of molten lava and as conditions go, it was about as bad as it gets – torrential weather mixed with cliffs, trees, all kinds of stuff you don't really want to crash into.”

The Range Rover Sport used in the audacious stunt was fitted with the powerful 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine delivering 503 hp.
