Volvo To Developed Track-Worthy Electrified Models

While Geely boss Shufu Li denied recent rumors that his company is ready to purchase Lotus, he still hinted that more track-focused Volvos could arrive in the future.

Li, howeverk confirmed during the launch of the new S90 Excellence that he loves driving and that he is planning on building a race track that will be put into operation next year, as reported by Auto Express. When asked if the track is for his personal enjoyment or rather for Volvo to use as a test facility, Li replied: "The race track is open for everyone."

As a response to Mr Li's statement, Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson went on to say that "a premium car maker also has to develop emotional value to justify the higher price. This is where a brand like Polestar comes into play."

"We have bought that brand [Polestar] and we are going to develop it in the direction of premium, pure performance cars. They will be developed in the direction of electrification," he added. "They will give a very high performance to our customers."

While Samuelsson refused to share a time frame for these track-tuned electrified Polestar models, he does mention that they're in the plans "for the next few years."

As for performance, if we were to take the 413 PS Volvo S90 T8 as a benchmark, a possible Polestar version, like this one rendered by X-Tomi, could easily have over 500 PS.
