The First Road-Going Ford GT Just Rolled Off The Production Line

#Ford announced the start of the GT’s production at #Multimatic’s facilities in Ontario.

The first example of the long-awaited Ford halo car was driven off the assembly line by Raj Nair, the company’s executive vice president.

“When we kicked off 2016, we had two primary objectives for our Ford GT supercar – to excel at Le Mans, and to start deliveries before year-end,” says Nair. “We’ve achieved both.”

Ford, which will deliver the first customer car in the coming days, has yet to announce the full technical details of the new GT. All we know so far is that is powered by a 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 with an expected output of over 600hp.

Ford has commissioned Multimatic, the builder of the GT’s racing versions, with the production of the road-going GT as well. The company has set a cap of 250 cars per year, with the first 500 examples already sold. Ford has said that they will not build more than 1,000 GTs for the road and that they will open the order books for the remaining 500 cars in 2018.

“For everyone involved in designing and developing this car, including all of our employees and suppliers, this is a moment to celebrate,” Nair adds. “The all-new Ford GT is a showcase of our strength in innovation and our commitment to delivering more for our customers – especially related to light-weight materials, aerodynamics and EcoBoost engine technologies.”
