Nissan NT400 Cabstar updated for 2014

Following the recent launch of its new NT500 truck, Nissan has given the smaller NT400 Cabstar chassis-cab a comprehensive makeover.

One of the major changes is the switch to a Euro 5b+ compliant engine. A 2.5 litre, four-cylinder, common-rail turbo diesel unit with 40,000 km (roughly 25,000 mile) service intervals, it’s being offered in a choice of three outputs.

The lowest-powered of the trio develops 120 bhp (90 kW / 121 PS) with 250 Nm (184 lb/ft) of torque and comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission. This particular option can be specified on NT400 models with gross vehicle weights of 2.8, 3.2, 3.4 or 3.5 tonnes.

Alternatively, there are 134 bhp (100 kW / 136 PS) / 270 Nm (199 lb/ft) and 143 bhp (107 kW / 145 PS) / 350 Nm (258 lb/ft) versions, which incidentally gain an extra gear ratio. Their availability is restricted to the 3.5 and 4.5 tonne GVW NT400 variants, though.

Styling tweaks for the cab are limited to a redesigned grille and the appearance of clear glass headlight clusters. On the inside, the fabric selection has been refreshed, the instruments are clearer and now incorporate a multifunction display, there’s a gear-shift indicator and Bluetooth has been integrated into the audio system.

The 2014 NT400 Cabstar, which is built in Spain, is on sale across Europe now. The range is extensive, as buyers can pick either a single or double cab and a 2,500 mm (8’ 2”), 2,900 mm (9’ 6”) or 3,400 mm (11’ 2”) wheelbase. As well as the basic chassis-cab, factory-fitted dropside, box and tipper bodies can be ordered too.

UK prices start from £18,275 (excluding VAT).
