2016 Holden Insignia VXR first view

Next month will see the launch of the German-built Holden Insignia VXR in Australia.

As expected, it’s virtually identical to the sporty Insignia models marketed by Vauxhall and Opel in Europe.

Power comes from a 2.8 litre V6 engine which, with the aid of a turbocharger, produces 320 bhp (239 kW / 325 PS). Peak torque meanwhile is 435 Nm (321 lb/ft).

In the absence of a manual gearbox option, that output is delivered to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. Official performance figures have still to be released, though.

Included in the generous specification are heated Recaro front seats, a driving mode selector, radar-controlled adaptive cruise control and a MyLink infotainment system.

Numerous safety features are fitted as standard, too. Among them are automatic emergency braking, lane change alert, blind spot warning and rear cross traffic monitoring.

Holden has yet to confirm a price for its new Insignia.
