Although it’ll probably be the last Australian-built Commodore, the latest VFII version also becomes the quickest non-HSV model to ever wear that illustrious nameplate.
The available V8 engine has been upgraded to a 6.2 litre LS3 unit which develops 407 bhp (304 kW / 413 PS) with 570 Nm (420 lb/ft) of peak torque. This is fitted as standard to the SS, SSV, SSV Redline and Caprice V (and it’s an option for the Calais V).
Unfortunately, official performance figures haven’t been released yet. However, the sportier variants come with a bi-modal exhaust and a mechanical sound enhancer, so they should at least make a decent noise.
Another component to receive attention is the FE3 rear suspension set-up. As a result of some modifications, Holden claims the ride comfort is now better, but handling ability hasn’t suffered.
Cosmetic changes across the range include LED rear light clusters for the Sportwagon estate, an updated wheel selection, a redesigned front bumper and a new grille. Furthermore, the SSV and SSV Redline gain functional bonnet vents.
VFII Commodore sales are due to begin in October.
