MAN enters the LCV market with its new TGE

Volkswagen subsidiary MAN is about to launch its first light commercial vehicle. The new TGE, which will be available with gross weights of between 3.0 and 5.5 tonnes, is essentially a rebadged 2017 Volkswagen Crafter.

In panel van guise, operators are going to have a choice of 5,983 mm (19’ 7”), 6,833 mm (22’ 5”) and 7,388 mm (24’ 3”) lengths that are variously combined with 2,340 mm (7’ 8”), 2,575 mm (8’ 5”) and 2,800 mm (9’ 2”) roof heights.

Single- and crew-cab chassis versions have also been developed. These are intended to accept bodies supplied either by MAN or third-party providers.

Like the just-unveiled second-generation Crafter, power comes from an EU6-compliant 2.0 litre turbocharged diesel engine. A single capacity doesn't mean a lack of variety, though.

To start with, there are 100 bhp (75 kW / 102 PS), 120 bhp (90 kW / 122 PS), 138 bhp (103 kW / 140 PS) and 174 bhp (130 kW / 177 PS) options.

Depending on the output selected, either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission can be specified. What's more, customers get to decide whether they need front-, rear- or all-wheel drive.

In Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland, TGE deliveries are due to commence shortly after production begins in April 2017. MAN says that further European launches are scheduled for the autumn.
