Facelifted Volkswagen Golf Just Three Days From Launch

The facelifted, seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf will launch in just three days time with an updated design and according to reports, two new engines.

The current Golf has been on the market since 2012 and for the 2018 model year, will be offered with a new 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, based around the current 1.4-liter unit but with a longer stroke. There will also be a new 1.5-liter diesel, slightly reduced in size to the outgoing 1.6-liter TDI due to a decrease in bore size.

Interestingly, Volkswagen brand chief executive Herbert Diess revealed earlier in the year that these engines won't be immediately available. According to Diess, they will launch “when it makes sense to produce them for CO2 regulations, because they are more expensive than the current engines.”

Beyond these two new engines, the design of the Golf will be refreshed but not overhauled. This means we anticipate seeing revised headlights and taillights and some small tweaks to both the front and rear bumpers. Additionally, some new materials and upgrades to the interior are expected to complete the upgrades, including gesture control.
