Lamborghini Huracan Spyder Ready To Get Tail Happy With RWD Variant

#Lamborghini has extended its range of #Huracan models once again with the #Spyder variant the latest recipient of the firm’s rear-wheel drive system.

Following in the footsteps of the hardtop Huracan LP580-2 and debuting at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week, the Huracan rear-wheel drive Spyder as it’s been dubbed, also includes a selection of distinct styling elements different from those of the all-wheel drive model.

Compared to the standard model, power from the 5.2-liter naturally-aspirated V10 engine now sits at 580 PS (572 hp) compared to 610 PS (602 hp). Despite the slight drop in power, the model will still accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a mere 3.6 seconds and on to a 319 km/h (198 mph) top speed.

Mated to the rear-wheel drive system remains the Lamborghini Doppia Frizione seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and like the all-wheel drive model, it includes a potent launch control function. Elsewhere, the steering and optional Lamborghini Dynamic Steering have been tuned for the new model.

The front of the Huracan rear-wheel drive Spyder has been fitted with a bumper identical to that of the rear-wheel Huracan Coupe. As such, it includes horizontal slates in the middle of the large air intakes to give the vehicle some added aggression. At the rear, styling changes include a new bumper and subtle modifications to the grille.

Just like the all-wheel drive Huracan Spyder, the fabric soft-top of the RWD can be opened or closed in just 17 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h. Unlike the standard model however, the rear-wheel drive Spyder has a weight distribution of 40 per cent at the front and 60 per cent at the rear, significantly reducing front axle inertia and potentially reducing understeer.

When the model arrives in markets worldwide from January 2017, it will be priced between the two- and four-wheel drive coupe models.
