Nissan's GT-R Nismo GT500 Gets Crucial Updates For 2017

#Nissan has unveiled its Nissan GT-R Nismo challenger for Japan’s Super GT racing series, complete with a selection of modifications over the outgoing model.

In 2017, manufacturers will be forced to cut downforce by 25 per cent for the series. To achieve that, Nissan has dulled down some of the crazy aerodynamic elements which GT500 cars have become synonymous for. With that being said, the car is still adorned in a multitude of aero aids not found on the street car, including a massive rear wing, flared wheel arches, an ankle-breaking front splitter and four new canards up front.

Nissan says that to offset the reduced downforce, it has bumped up power output but hasn’t yet revealed just how much power the 2017 GT-R Nismo GT500 pumps out.
Elsewhere, it has been confirmed that next season’s racer adopts a lower center of gravity than the outgoing model which also having improved weight distribution.

Discussing the car, Nissan chief executive Takao Katagiri said “We will make further development improvements during off-season tests and aim to create a race car that will shine brilliantly within the history of motorsports.

“We hope to thrill fans with a fast, more appealing GT-R that will excite fans as it lines up on the grid for the opening round competing against the new Lexus and Honda machines."

Nissan took the GT500 championship crown in 2014 and 2015 and hopes to do the same in 2017.
