Will Next Year's Jaguar I-Pace Get An SVO Version?

Having just debuted in LAA, the Jaguar I-Pace hasn’t even finished shocking everybody with its unorthodox looks (for a Jaguar), but even so, there have alreaady been talks about a more powerful variant.

Why? Because a 400hp and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque electric-powered mongrel is clearly not enough. Joking aside, it’s unknown whether or not the production variant – expected to make its grand debut in late 2017 – will sport the same output as the concept, but according to SVO’s Managing Director, it will be pretty fast.

Nevertheless, when asked by Auto Express about a possible SVO-branded I-Pace, John Edwards said they’ll look into it: “Of course it’s something we’ll look at; [but] the car will already be very quick and I’m not sure how much faster people will want to go.”

With a 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) time of 4 seconds, the I-Pace is faster than both the supercharged XJ and XK, and on par with the 5.0-litre, 542 hp XKR-S.

The I-Pace’s output can be uprated with no problems, but that means losing range, as Jaguar Land Rover’s engineering boss, Wolfgang Ziebart explained: “Increasing performance is relatively easy. But that would mean less range.”
