Toyota To Replace 60 Per Cent Of Its Powertrains By 2022

#Toyota is planning a comprehensive overhaul of its #drivetrains and will replace at least 60 per cent of them by the end of 2021.

Automotive News reports that in the nextfive years, the Japanese brand will introduce 17 different variants of nine new engines, produce 10 versions of six fresh hybrid systems and make 10 variants of four new transmissions. It is thought that these comprehensive updates will not only make Toyota’s range more environmentally friendly, but also more exhilarating.

Alongside the brand’s updated fleet of drivetrains will be a company-wide push to reduce the number of engines in its lineup by 40 per cent. This will coincide with the increased use of the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), set to underpin many of its models, promising to cut costs and improve performance.

Last week, the brand previewed its future range of drivetrains by unveiling a new 2.5-liter petrol four-cylinder, an eight-speed automatic gearbox, a hybrid powertrain for RWD vehicles as well as a 10-speed auto ‘box for RWD vehicles.
