Students build the one-off Škoda Atero coupé

Elongated side windows give the Škoda Atero somewhat unusual proportions, but squint hard enough and they recall the two-door Rapid which first appeared in 1984.

That comparison is apt, because the Atero is actually a remodelled version of the current Rapid Spaceback. This unique coupé – created by a team from Škoda's vocational training school – is the brand's third annual 'student car' after 2014's CitiJet convertible and 2015's Funstar pick-up.

Although it might not be immediately apparent, the B-pillars have been moved rearwards to accommodate longer doors. A revised roof line is much more obvious, while modified bumpers, a set of 18” 'Turini' alloy wheels, extra bonnet vents and bespoke light clusters complete the transformation.

Performance should live up to those sportier looks, thanks to a 1.4 litre turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 123 bhp (92 kW / 125 PS) via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
