Skoda Will Introduce A Fabia-Based SUV In 2018

#Skoda can no longer ignore the small crossover segment, and after the successful launch of the Kodiaq, the Czechs are now shifting their attention towards such a model.

Set to take on the likes of the Nissan Juke, the vehicle has been confirmed for production by the company's Board Member for Research and Development, Christian Strube, who recently spoke to AutoExpress on the matter: "After Kodiaq and Yeti, we are talking about a smaller lifestyle SUV. I am already working on it."

While some suggest that the smallest interpretation of the Volkswagen Group's MQB architecture would be the most suitable one, the truth is that it's not clear yet what platform the new crossover will actually be used.

"We have to find a compromise between the investment and getting the right car together. We have to do this in an intelligent way. We are able to work with the other brands and we can develop using the modules to bring our own ideas to the VW Group", Strube added.

The as-of-yet unnamed vehicle will hit showrooms sometime in 2018, but it's unlikely that it will be the first of its kind developed under the Volkswagen umbrella, as the Polo-based crossover could be introduced ahead of it, possibly followed by the Seat Arona, which was confirmed for production last month.
