Audi To Double Number Of RS Models In Next 18 Months

Audi Sport chief executive and former Lamborghini boss Stephan Winkelmann has revealed that Audi's fleet of RS-badged models will double in the coming 18 months.

Autocar reports that by early 2018, an additional eight RS performance models will hit the market, joining the seven already available. Among the new models are thought to be RS variants of the A1 and Q5, a new RS4 and potentially, a new version of the R8 powered by the recently-confirmed 2.9-liter twin-turbo variant.

Speaking with the British publication, Winkelmann said “There is more to come. We have one company, one name and we have a brand. But we will remain exclusive.”

Winkelmann also said that despite sales of AMG models skyrocketing, Audi Sport's new RS models will be developed in a different direction. Unfortunately, he was mute about revealing just what direction the vehicles will take simply saying “It is better to under-promise and over-deliver.”

Current Audi Sport models consists of the R8, RS3, RS Q3, TT RS Coupe, TT RS Convertible, RS6 and RS7.

By adding eight more, sales of the brand will soar and customers will have a greater range of RS models to choose from. That can only by a good thing in our opinion.
