Mitsubishi Recalls 200k Crossovers For Rusty Wipers

#Mitsubishi has issued two recall notices, both related to corrosion of the windshield wipers on its crossover, and each affecting a good 100,000 vehicles across the United States.

The (slightly) larger of the two affects the 2007-13 Outlander – namely those manufactured between September 8, 2006, and March 29, 2013. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in those estimated 100,082 units, “water may enter between the hood and windshield and cause the front wiper link ball joint to corrode, possibly resulting in the wiper link separating and the wipers becoming inoperative.”

The second recall affects a nearly as large a number of Outlander Sports – a separate model despite the associated nameplate – for a similar issue. In 94,534 units from the 2011-15 model years and made between August 26, 2010, and January 5, 2015, rust could cause the wiper motor (as opposed to the wiper link) to fail.

Either way, the danger is that the wipers won't work, so Mitsubishi is instructing dealers to replace the requisite components.
