Over 34,000 BMW And Rolls-Royce Models Recalled With Faulty Airbag Sensor

#BMW has announced that it will recall just over 34,000 vehicles worldwide due to an issue with an airbag sensor.

In a statement, the German brand says that there was a software error in the production of an airbag sensor from an outside supplier. This means that incorrect data is sent to the airbag control unit in front-end and rear-end collisions. Consequently, the airbag may not deploy correctly.

Affected vehicles were built between December 2011 and June 2012 and include around 33,600 7-Series, 5-Series GT and Rolls-Royce Ghost models. An additional 650 vehicles are covered by the recall after they were previously fitted with a faulty replacement part.

BMW has set up a simple website which will allow owners to determine if their vehicle is affected by entering their vehicle’s chassis number.

Details are yet to be given about how many vehicles with the airbag sensor issue are located in the United States.
