The Audi A5 And S5 Sportback Finally Make It Stateside

Closely mimicking the coupe but offering more interior space, the #Audi A5 Sportback and its sportier counterpart (the S5) appeal to those looking for something else in a compact executive.

Like the two-door version, the new Sportback is a unique proposal in Audi’s line-up, being offered as the only D-segment hatchback sedan. Visually, it stays true to the standard A5, featuring the same front end, style cues and design language, only with the added practicality of two additional doors.

Although it’s underpinned by the same MLB platform as the Coupe, its dimensions have increased in length (from 2,764 mm to 2,824 mm).

Don’t expect any mechanical differences between it and the two-door model, as both share the same engine line-up. However, unlike the European version this one won’t offer any diesel engines.

In the U.S, the standard A5 Sportback will be offered with a 252 hp and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) of torque 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, while the S5 Sportback will feature the 354 hp and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque 3.0-liter TFSI V6 engine. That’s it.

The latter will also be able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.5 seconds, making it more than your average commuter. Both variants will arrive in U.S. dealerships in the spring of 2017.
