This New Lambo Huracan Combines Open-Air With Rear-Drive [w/Video]

Unveiled at the LA Auto Show this week is the rear-drive #Huracan LP580-2 Spyder.

It packs a 5.2-liter V10 sending 572 horsepower to the rear wheels (instead of 602 to all four) through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. And as you might have guessed from the Spyder handle, this one's a convertible.

Lamborghini has embraced the benefits of all-wheel drive like few other automakers have. Every production model it has made since the debut of the Diablo VT in 1993 has come with AWD as standard.

But there are some purists who still prefer their power channeled to the rear wheels alone, so the supercar manufacturer continues to offer some models with only one driven axle – like this latest version of the Huracan.

That puts it in direct competition with the likes of the Ferrari 488 Spider and McLaren 650S Spider. But unlike those turbocharged V8 models, this Huracan (like every other) forgoes the turbos in favor of ten naturally aspirated cylinders.

Its introduction brings the number of road-going Huracan variants up to four, joined by the 610-4 coupe, 610-4 Spyder, and the 'regular' 580-2. That's to say nothing of the Super Trofeo and GT3 racing versions. And that won't even be the end of it, as we're expecting a Superleggera coupe and Performante roadster to follow in due course as well.

In the meantime, scope out the rear-drive roadster in the live photos below from its unveiling in Los Angeles, along with the two-minute promo clip below that.
