JLR Confirms New "Land Rover" Discovery Will Also Be Assembled In Slovakia

Unveiled a couple of months ago and said to be positively received by the brand's potential customers, the new generation #LandRover Discovery will be put together at two European plants.

Besides the Solihull facility in the UK, the Nitra plant in Slovakia, which is scheduled to open in 2018, will also be responsible for assembling the all-new SUV.

"The new Discovery is already a hit with customers, confirming our decision to launch this car as the lead vehicle in Slovakia, alongside manufacture in Solihull. This multi-plant approach mirrors the strategy taken for Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport at our plants in Halewood, China and Brazil, ensuring our manufacturing output is able to keep up with strong consumer demand", said JLR's Global Manufacturing Director, Wolfgang Stadler.

The new Disco offers room for up to seven adults, is built on a modern aluminum architecture that allowed it so shed approximately 480 kg (1,058 lbs) off its weight compared to its predecessor and sports an entirely new design. It is scheduled to hit US showrooms in mid-2017, with an engine lineup consisting of a two V6s, a 335 HP petrol and a 254 HP diesel.
